
Laura Metzler is the Senior Business Research Librarian at the Cecil County Public Library. Ms. Metzler’s work focuses on providing free information and assistance to potential and existing small business owners. She works one-on-one with clients to provide up-to-date business information, access to business databases, and business writing instruction. In addition to meeting with clients one-on-one, Ms. Metzler organizes a popular series of free business classes on topics ranging from accounting and marketing to the realities of getting a commercial loan.
In 2015, Cecil County Public Library received the nation’s highest honor for libraries, the National Medal, in part because of the innovative approach to serving entrepreneurs and small business owners. Ms. Metzler also created an annual program, Start-Up Cecil: a Teen Small Business Contest, now in its 5th year. Ms. Metzler has presented for WebJunction, and in 2017 she received the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce Impact Cecil Award, recognizing the significant contributions she has made to the economic vitality of Cecil County’s small business community. She is also the proud mother to Adelaide, Violet and Wyatt Metzler.
