Nick Demske was hired as a book shelver at the Racine Public Library in 2007. After serving in a number of different roles there, including Youth Services Librarian and Community Resources Librarian, Nick currently serves as the RPL's Deputy Director. Nick received his Masters in Library and Information Science from UW Milwaukee in 2010 and was named one of its 50 “Distinguished Alumni” in 2017. He serves in the elected role of County Supervisor of Racine County’s First District and has served on many other boards and committees including—currently—the ALA’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice Committee. Nick has worked as a lobbyist with the organization Citizens Climate Lobby since 2013, whose work contributed largely to some of the climate protections built into the Inflation Reduction Act.
Nick is a member of the Libraries Work Group Coordinating Committee for the Government Alliance on Racial Equity. In 2021, Nick co-founded the Joshua Glover Justice Fund, which is a bail fund that exists to subvert the exploitative cash bail system in Racine County.
